While I haven’t been to the con since 2005, I’ve been fortunate to attend a few, the first being in 1995. That year I read in the CBG that Gil Kane was going to be attending and I really wanted too meet him. Gil was the artist when I first started reading Spider-Man and that makes him my default definitive Spider-Man artist! I also thought it would be cool to have him sign my Amazing Spider-Man #99 comic. Fortunately, for me, my older brother Mike lived in southern California, so, I had a place to stay. Mike, being well aware of my hobby, also wanted to attend. I welcomed the chance to have someone spend the day with me.
The con was amazing! At that time, you could purchase tickets at the convention center and parking was readily available. The panel I went to with Gil Kane and all of the other Silver Age creators was fun. After the panel, I was able to get my picture taken with Gil. The next day, on the convention floor, he was signing and I had him autograph the splash page to my ASM #99 comic.
Mission accomplished!
